Community Based Youth Initatives:

Galway City Partnership has a particular focus on young people, in relation to education, but also in relation to social and personal development. Galway is a young city, with many agencies active in this area, with whom the Partnership works.

EdStart Incredible Years:

EdStart delivers the Incredible Years Series in Galway City, with a goal to reduce the incidence of early school leaving. It is an evidence based prevention and intervention programme devised in America by Dr. Carolyn Webster Stratton to enhance social and emotional competencies in children aged 2-10 years.
The Incredible Years Series contains three separate training programmes for teachers, children and parents. Both the children and parent programmes are running in Galway City. Currently six pre-schools and three primary schools run the Dina School programme, and six parent programmes are run per year.

Young Person's Advocacy Service:

The Galway City Youth Advocacy Service is a community based career guidance support service for unemployed young people between the ages of 16 and 20, who are early school leavers or who have few or no qualifications.

The Service is managed by the Galway City Partnership, through funding from FAS. It is confidential and individual and based in the Partnership's office and in the community.

The Service helps clients to develop a Career Path Plan and offers a step-by-step programme that:

Explains the value of vocational skills and the importance of work experience
Teaches young people job search skills

Supporting School Participation:

Galway City Partnership strives to ensure that each child gets the best out
of his/her school experience. In the last year, we supported a number of
local schools through initiatives to support school attendance, develop a
city wide approach to tackling Early School Leaving and supporting inclusive
practices among local schools. A Induction Booklet into the Irish Education

Youth Forum:

Galway City Partnership has also supported the development of Galway City Comhairle na nÓg; a youth forum that enables all young people to have their voice heard and have a say in how their city is run, and also to influence national policies which have an effect on their lives. Comhairle na nÓg is managed by Galway City Council and City of Galway VEC and receives ongoing support from Galway City Partnership.
