Developing Communities:
Developing Communities is about empowering groups so that those most socially excluded can work together to bring about change in their local communities. The work is both issue and area based. Some of our work includes:
Supports to Community Groups:
Developing Communities staff are available to work with community groups at different stages of their development. We support groups in their start-up stage and as they are developing their capacity. We offer limited small grants to these groups during these stages and can support group members with their training needs.

The Galway Migrant Service was set up in May 2007. It provides a dedicated support service to migrants and their families and has established itself as the central support service in the city and county. Since its inception the service has directly supported almost 2000 migrants through its drop-in centre. The service provides practical information, advice and advocacy. It is also currently running English language conversation circles which are free and inclusive.

Older People:
Last year we undertook a Community Profile of Supports and Services to Older People in Galway City in conjunction with Age and Opportunity. The profile is a comprehensive picture of the supports currently available and of the needs identified by Older People. We hope to develop a new initiative in 2009 as a follow-on from this research. The Community Profile can be viewed by clicking on the link on the left.
