Community Work is about empowering groups so that those most socially excluded can work together to bring about change in their local communities. The work is both issue and area based. Some of our work includes:

Supports to Community Groups:
Community Work staff are available to work with community groups at different stages of their development. We support groups in their start-up stage and as they are developing their capacity. We offer limited small grants to these groups during these stages and can support group members with their training needs.

Galway City Anti-Racism Strategy and Integration Work:
We developed and have been implementing ‘Towards a City of Equals’ – the Galway City Anti-Racism Strategy since 2005. The purpose of the strategy is to welcome diversity, eliminate racism and promote interculturalism in Galway city. Maintaining the focus on Anti-Racism, elements of the strategy will continue into 2009 and beyond through the implementation of a local Integration Strategy currently being developed. ‘Towards A City of Equals – the Galway City Anti-Racism Strategy can be viewed by clicking on the link on the left.

Promoting Universal Access:
The Partnership has a long history of working to make Galway a more accessible city. The company provides a worker to support the work of Access For All – a network of local disability organisations. The focus of this work is on continually improving the accessibility of the local built environment and involves working closely with Galway City Council and other key stakeholders.

Outreach Work in RAPID areas:
We have employed a community development outreach worker who is based in the RAPID area of Ballinfoile. The remit of this worker is to support the development of new community groups and initiatives in the area and to work with them to build their capacity.

Resource Facilities and Meeting Space:
We have a large meeting room that accommodates up to 20 people. This room is available free of charge in the evenings and at weekends to community groups who are working to promote social inclusion. Promoting Social Inclusion:
We work to promote the social inclusion of the most marginalised in our society.
The campaigning equality network ‘Action For Equality’ is supported under this initiative and we work with all groups who seek to promote the equality agenda locally.
